Raeduun launched its Education in Emergency (EiE) Program in 2015 as part of its multi-sector response to the outbreak of war in Yemen. Since then, the prolonged conflict and humanitarian crisis have cast a shadow over Yemen’s education system. Teachers’ salaries have been cut off, forcing thousands to leave their areas in search of other job opportunities to provide for their families. Meanwhile, children have dropped out of school due to the absence of teachers, protection concerns, or to enter the labor force and help provide for their families. Throughout that time, thousands of war-affected children in Yemen have benefitted from RSD’s education programming.

Now with nearly a decade of experience, Raeduun’s EiE program continues providing comprehensive interventions aimed at addressing educational gaps and restoring equitable, safe, and protective learning environments for conflict and crisis-affected students. This involves operating temporary learning centers in areas where government schools are closed, delivering school supplies and providing psychosocial support to crisis-affected learners, and partnering in other initiatives that contribute to the continuity of the education system. The program activities are carried out by more than 100 well-trained staff and volunteers—over 50 percent of whom are women.

Education in Emergency Program

Strategic Objective:

  • Strengthen student retention by increasing equitable access to alternative education opportunities where government schools are closed.

  • Provide crisis-affected students with school supplies and/or uniforms, enabling them to enroll in school.
