Raeduun for Sustainable Development (RSD)

“Honestly, no one paid attention to us, and as Muhamasheen we did not have the resources to improve our lives until Raeduun intervened.”

We work tirelessly across Yemen, reaching remote areas and marginalized communities with programs that focus on improving literacy rates, promoting gender equality in education, and fostering skills development for sustainable livelihoods.

Empowering Communities Nationwide

Mahboub is in his 40s and experienced a partial paralysis that left him bedridden. He belongs to an ethnic group in Yemen known as the Muhamasheen that has faced social, economic, cultural, and political exclusion for centuries. Mahboub lives on the outskirts of a village in the Al Silw district of Taiz province, where political violence continues to occur sporadically. His home is a basic structure that he shares with his son, daughter-in-law, and six grandchildren as they dwell together on a piece of land donated by a local philanthropist.

In many conflict-affected Yemeni communities, the journey towards sustainable development starts with a food basket, like the one delivered to Mahboub’s family…

RSD has over 130 professional team members equipped with the expertise to respond to emergencies across Yemen. The team is supported by a network of more than 200 local volunteers. These women and men are well-trained and well-placed to scale up RSD operations across Yemen’s 22 governorates based on programming needs and opportunities.

Climate change poses a worldwide challenge, with its impacts being felt more severely in vulnerable nations like Yemen. According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Yemen ranks third globally among the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change—yet it is one of the least prepared for increasing climate shocks. For Yemeni families, the impact of the developing environmental crisis can be a daily, existential struggle. Water is becoming more scarce, and crops are failing—threatening a way of life that millions of Yemenis depend on. The most vulnerable of these Yemenis do not have the skills or access to job markets to seek new livelihoods. Furthermore, UNFPA research shows that climate disasters have a disproportionate impact on women, girls, and newborns—including hypertensive disorders, preterm and low-weight births, and stillbirths. Your partnership with RSD will help Yemeni communities adapt to these realities and build a more resilient future in which they are equipped to contribute to better management of our planet’s resources for all. In particular, RSD’s Community Resilience Initiative is committed to providing sustainable water management solutions as a key part of addressing these challenges.

Towards Thriving on an Interdependent Planet

Emphasizing Climate Resilience

Yasmin’s husband used to work bringing fruits and vegetables from farms in Sa’ada to markets in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a. This not only provided food security for his family but also meant that he was an important part of the supply chain delivering food security to residents of Sana’a. When he was killed by an indiscriminate airstrike four years ago, Yasmin, a 35-year-old mother of five children, had only the sweat of her brow to fall back on.
